This site
No cookies, ads or trackers that follow you around the web. Cloudflare hosts pickwire.app and, like any web host, sees your IP address to send you the page, under its own privacy policy.
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and doesn't store anything in your browser or identify you. It records which page you opened (without anything after a “?”), the site you came from, your country, browser and type of device, and how fast the page loaded. We see only totals.
The launch email
If you leave your address for the launch email:
- What we keep: your email address and the time you signed up. Nothing else: no name, IP address or cookie.
- Why: to send you one email when Pickwire is on the App Store. Nothing else is sent, and the list isn't shared or sold.
- Where: in our Cloudflare account (Workers KV). To send that one email, the list goes to an email service, which this page will name before it's used.
- For how long: until the launch email goes out. Then the list is deleted.
- To be taken off sooner: write from that address to data@pickwire.app and we'll delete it.
The app
The app's full privacy policy will be published here with the app. In short: Pickwire has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and we receive nothing about you, your photos or your captions. What you make in it is kept on your iPhone, and something leaves the phone only when you do one of these:
- Send photos: they go to the FTP or SFTP server you set up.
- Email the desk: the email goes through your own mail app.
- Ask for a place: the photos' coordinates, or the iPhone's location, go to Apple to get a place name.
- Dictate in a language the iPhone can't recognise itself: the recording goes to Apple's speech recognition. In languages it can, nothing is sent.
- Turn on Read signs with Private Cloud Compute: up to four photos of a group go to Apple's Private Cloud Compute when you open Text in the photos. It's off unless you turn it on.
- Download the list of people: the iPhone fetches the same files as everyone else from data.pickwire.app (on Cloudflare), and checks for a new list once a day.
- Tap Check now on a person: that person's Wikidata ID goes to the Wikimedia Foundation.
